The short man sermon

THE SHORT MAN SERMON
It was a Sunday evening, one of those evenings the youths and singles come together to talk and pray about their future marriages and life issues generally at Jesus, Saviour Church.

One of the youth pastors, Pastor Ray, had a way of asking questions that triggered discussions and contributions.

One question that evening was 'What's that thing you can't stand in a guy ladies?'.

Almost all the ladies had something to say. One that fascinated the young congregation so much as the one dropped by 5ft.4 tall,  elegant and beautiful lady.

She's so beautiful that when she rose hands to speak, all eyes followed her. She stammered for a moment but the young men encouraged her ( at least if they know it, they will drop it before they come proposing to her). Unfortunately, what their beautiful sister said was nothing they could drop or do some about if they had it.

She said with  'My name is Mabel and I just can't stand a short guy'.

With one hand akimbo and the other raised to the east, she added 'In fact, my family will never accept him'

They all laughed!!!

They assumed she was joking😂😅😅 but when she went on and on, they knew she was serious.

Well, Pastor Ray turned that discussion into a sermon!

The short man sermon!!!

'What is it about short men you can't stand?' Pastor Ray asked.

Some youths said they were cocky.

Some said they lack confidence.

Some said they are short tempered.

Some said they will both suffer from low self-esteem.

Some said their I.Q is directly proportional to their height.

'Oh well,' he kept quiet and asked ' Do you think if they had the opportunity to decide their frame from God, they would have chosen short?
'
Everyone shook their heads from the right to the left.

Pastor Ray read to them the book of Jeremiah18: 1-4.

'It's even saddening that they can't even wear heels' Amaka, one of the youths added.

'Which even means there is more hope for a short lady than a short man'. Short Abel screamed angrily.

'Oh calm down Abel!!!'  Bimbo, an usher hushed him.

Pastor Ray was amused. He burst into Tori's Kelly song; Help us to love. The song pierces even the marrows of every soul present. It was a heartfelt song. In his usual manner, he stressed the last two lines of the song, drawing all ears attention to the lyrics

Oh, we need your love (fill us please with your love)
God help me to love the way that you love me.

He sang also I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

'Is it only tall people that are fearfully and wonderfully made? He asked.

'Now tell me, if you find yourself a believer who loves you dearly as Christ loves the church will you say no to him' He asked again.

'No pastor!!!' They chorused.

'So are you saying I shouldn't even consider my children height?' Mabel asked angrily.

The look on Pastor Ray's face showed that it was a hard question. He threw it back to the congregation.

'What do you think?' He asked.

Some said height should be considered

Some said one of the couples must at least be tall.

Some said, if the children of short couples are given the right diet, they can still be tall.

Pastor Ray has amused again!!!

He burst into tongues and thereafter proceeded to round up his sermon. He asked everyone to open their Bibles to Jeremiah 29 vs 11.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

'Whatever our considerations are in life even as regards our life partners; tall, rich, prince charming, houses home and abroad, 30 billion in his account and oil and gas job, whatever may, let's cast them all away. Let's flow with God's plan as regards all issues of life'.

He ended by quoting  1 Corinthians 2 vs 6-8 of the Message Bible.

We, of course, have plenty of wisdom to pass on to you once you get your feet on firm spiritual ground, but it’s not popular wisdom, the fashionable wisdom of high-priced experts that will be out-of-date in a year or so. God’s wisdom is something mysterious that goes deep into the interior of his purposes. You don’t find it lying around on the surface. It’s not the latest message, but more like the oldest—what God determined as the way to bring out his best in us, long before we ever arrived on the scene. The experts of our day haven’t a clue about what this eternal plan is.

Pastor Ray's special guest at the youth fellowship tonight is Sister Mabel who's happily married to a man who will go down the deepest ocean for her. They've been married for two years now, with a set of twins. Her husband is not so tall. Well...he's just half her height.

Happy Sunday.
With love from Munu Ogheneochuko.
