MY FIRST DAY AT WORK

Hello dear,
I just got a new job a few weeks ago and I just thought of sharing my first-day experience with you all.  Before now, I have not been the 8-6 sitting and working kind of person, So this is my first, Nah, second, abi, third official office job.

So here, I have a boss and then I have an OGA.  OGA is OGA, just leave it like that. You will know their positions later.

Let me gist you about my interview first. It was a seriously long weird interview filled with tension (like they made me believe that the interview questions were supposed to make me feel relax but not so true, I was still tensed).  My OGA was at the interview,  He wanted me all gusty, hitting all the nails in the head but I was a not...my personal confession. Please be a gusty person when you are been interviewed.

Three days later, I missed several calls from an unknown caller. I thought it was a particular person I did not save his number and I assumed he will definitely call back.

On the fourth day, I got a Whatsapp message from my boss, asking me if I did not see his calls. OH MINE!!!..  I screamed out loud. My sis asked what was wrong. It was too shameful for me to say. I did not even know what to reply to him. I eventually typed a simple apology without excuses.
Imagine, my boss, read the message and did not reply. I was so scared. What if I already lost the job because of my nonchalant attitude of not returning calls? I followed up with calls...1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 9, 10 calls. No answer.

Ha!!! I cried.  My village people have followed me oh.
Well, I remember this scripture, 'Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?' Lamentations 3:37.
Like the Biblical David, I cheered up, prayed and resumed my daily routine.

A young lady I made friends with during the interview messaged me on Whatsapp that she has been selected and to resume on Monday. I was happy for her. I wished her well. 
'How far na?'
'What about you?'
She was still typing more questions. Ha, ba, madam calm down na...just kidding, that was not what I replied with oh.
I told her I was not informed of anything. She sharply went offline thereafter and came back later telling me not to worry. She told me she has hopes that I will soon be called.  

On Sunday night, I got a message...Hope you know you are to resume on Monday? 8am. If you come one minute late, you will be fired.
Chai!!!!!!  I screamed ehn...no be small. This time, when my sister asked me what happened, I gladly told her. 

Monday morning came. I dressed up in my favourite TW shirt and black pants and a fine black shiny shoes.  I did not tock in (one of my big mistakes).  I got to my office bus-stop and contemplated taking the short cut or taking a bike. I checked my watch, I had a lot of time. So I took the short cut.

At the office building, the first person I saw was my boss in his car reading. Damn!!! ghen! then! ghen!!! Time was 7:20.  I wondered if he does not rest( I knew from the interview that he stays further than me), how and why he came so early, Why he was not in his office, and why he was reading in his car.
I quietly sneaked into the building. I was surprised that other staffs had resumed before me.
Na wa oh! this office sha...their 8am means 7am. 

Boss directed I and the other new staffs how to go on with our work and also gave instructions with warnings.We had a board meeting later in the day and my dressing was one of the topics raised by Oga. He said I looked normal, I looked like I was going for lectures and not an office. Henceforth, I was told to always wear a suit. 

OGA noticed my facial expression and my half-opened mouth.
'You do not have suit?' he asked.
'I do' I replied 'But I only wear it on special occasions or when I have projects to defend. ' I added.
'Well! YOU! will be  defending more projects' He said and moved on to other things.

The day went really fast. We summited our report and closed for the day. The traffic on the road, especially in Ajah was terrible. Congested roads, I wonder where all the human beings on the road were coming from, poor road lights, Keke fighting fiercely with big vehicles for space,  bus drivers , those Danfo drivers should be sent to Funny farms. I got home tired, drained and famished.  Thankfully my mom had  made dinner...Sweet mother. I had large amount of  hot white rice spread on a large flat plate with Chicken stew, a big piece of chicken thigh and red chilly pepper sprinkled all over the food. 
Reading this last line, you can think me a Falstaffian but I am only a foodie.
Hohoho...

My most helpful tools for my first day/ first week  at work aside my office requirements  are;
A pen,
A note pad,
A smiling face,
Willingness to learn and ask questions,
Willingness to famz,
Most importantly...PRAYERS. 

For the first week, wearing suits and looking all cooporate, too,too corporate was a burden for me.
But, Hey I'm back on track and OGA and boss are proud of me.
I like my job ( but damn, it is stressful). I have bosses who expect so much from me. I have deadlines to beat, I have targets, I have to slay (Yeah, my OGA and Boss like people who can slay...fine corporate clothings, good shoes, tidy beards for the guys, hair on fleek for the ladies...if possible...be taking UBER to work).
Presentations are pretty scary too...
Sometimes it is worst than project defence sef.

And to all employers, visioners like OGA who while we are asleep or resting...they are busy thinking and creating ways to make profits, making  the company better and paying us salary.
